Welcome Pastor Mark A. Tiede

Pastor Mark Andrew Tiede is a rostered ELCA minister with nearly 30 years of experience as an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament. He is passionate about preaching, worship & music and working to help build a strong sense of community and congregational vitality. He also has experience with strategic and organizational planning, including growing children’s ministry participation, increasing neighborhood awareness leading to new members and building effective connections with neighboring service organizations.

Pastor Tiede has a bachelor of arts degree in religious studies from St. Olaf College and a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary. He has served as Senior Pastor at St John’s Lutheran Church in Minneapolis for the past 12 years. Prior to that he served as Pastor for Welcome and Mission at Zion Lutheran in Anoka and co-pastor at a parish in Vining, MN.

Pastor Tiede is a father of Lucas (Paige), Linnea (Nikesh) and Carolynn and grandfather of Arthur and Ahaan. His wife Connie currently serves as lead pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka and they reside in Edina. He has wide-ranging interests including pheasant, duck, and goose hunting, fishing, travelling and choral music. He’s sung in Magnum Chorum for over 10 years, Minneapolis Popup Choir, two tours with Together in Hope (Italy 2018 and Norway 2022) and a Barbershop Quartet.

We met and evaluated many candidates with a wide range of experience levels, backgrounds and approaches to ministry. Of all of them, Pastor Tiede presented us with the strongest resume and best fit for the lead pastor position. We look forward to working with Pastor Tiede to advance the ministry of St. Barnabas together.
