LAURIE SANDERSON Keyboards Piano Laurie Sanderson took piano lessons continuously from age 5 through college. She got first accompanying "job" at age 10 as the pianist for the children's choir program at her church. In high school, she did a lot of instrumental and vocal accompaniment. Laurie took a minor (almost a major - lots of courses) in college to go with her triple major in Economics/Business/Psychology. While in college, she studied piano under Dr. Paul Baumgartner and worked in the Gustavus piano lab school. She accompanied voice classes and many vocal and instrumental students in their solo work. She also performed solo piano in recitals. Laurie worked for Baldwin Studios and Cutrera Baldwin Music in Lafayette, LA for four years. While there she did some recording work and continued to teach a handful of students while working in the financial planning business. She stopped teaching when she had kids and a husband whose job kept him away over half the time. In Plymouth, Laurie has accompanied church services, played for weddings, accompanied the Heritage Academy choirs, and been available as an accompanist to young people. She's also performed two piano duet recitals with St. Barnabas organist Mary Newton. Now with older, pretty self-sufficient children, she's once again able to share what she can with others. Her goal will be to help students learn the fundamentals of music & and explore expressions of other music as well as their own. She strives to make lessons enjoyable and to allow a pace that fits the student. |
